Get Fit - From Head to Toe!

Fitness is a buzzword that’s being stressed more often these days by medical experts, especially with the soaring rates of obesity and its associated ills.

Guest blogger Heather Johnson offers 22 super tips to help you Get Fit From Head to Toe!

The more we earn, the more we migrate to a cushy and thus sedentary lifestyle filled with hedonistic material comforts, fatty foods and unhealthy drinks.

We no longer walk even if it’s just a couple of blocks because we want to show off the new car, we no longer eat in because it’s easier to eat out, we stuff ourselves with unhealthy food and wash them down with sugary sodas or alcoholic beverages high in caloric content, and we’re content to get fat and out of shape as long as we can camouflage those flesh handles with the latest in designer clothes.

Being obese or even overweight is not just a cosmetic problem; it’s a health issue that can have serious repercussions if you do not start taking steps to getting fit and shedding those excess pounds.

Starting a diet and a hitting the gym is the best way to kick start your journey to fitness, but there’s more to the process than just eating healthy and working out regularly. While good food habits and a regular exercise routine make you feel physically fit, fitness is a holistic aspect that must be undertaken with respect to both mind and body.

Here’s how you can make sure you’re as fit as a fiddle, in every way there is:

1) Stick to your prescribed diet that’s balanced with healthy food. Include lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. Stay clear of snacks and other processed foods.

2) Avoid eating in between meals. If you feel hungry, munch on an apple rather than reach for a bag of chips.

3) Never snack (or even eat meals) while reading or watching TV. You lose track of the amount you’re consuming.

4) Drink lots of water to keep your system clear of toxins and your skin feeling radiant and young.

5) Avoid alcohol and cigarettes.

6) Do not medicate yourself or take drugs without a doctor’s prescription. Self medication has unforeseen dangers.

7) Follow your exercise routine, come rain or shine.

8) If you indulge yourself at a party or a night out, make it a point to compensate with an extra half hour at the gym.

9) Give your brain a workout by doing word or number puzzles on a regular basis.

10) Keep your hair healthy by washing and conditioning it regularly. Protect it from harsh sunlight with a hat when you go out and avoid using too many artificial colors and dyes.

11) Your skin needs protection too to stay fit, so be generous with the suntan lotion when you step out in the midday heat to save yourself from melanoma or skin cancer.

12) Schedule a regular checkup with your dentist to keep those pearly whites in top condition.

13) Clean your feet and keep them moisturized to prevent cracks and sores.

14) Walk more instead of taking the car out all the time, climb stairs even when there are elevators around.

15) Stay organized, both with your schedule and your things.

16) Set aside some quality time for yourself to do the things you love each day.

17) Read and expand your knowledge.

18) Spend time with good friends who make you laugh and bring you cheer.

19) Work hard and with sincerity at your job.

20) Take a well-deserved vacation once a year.

21) Live within your means - do not borrow to finance your expenditure.

22) Use your credit card sparingly.

We have only one life. It’s up to us to live it in the best way, the fittest way possible.
